Cuzco celebrates the great feast of the sun in June

Cuzco celebrates the great feast of the sun in June

The Inti Raymi is declared Cultural Heritage of Peru and is celebrated around the Jubilee Celebrations of the City of Cuzco every June 24, coinciding with the winter solstice. Its origins more than six centuries back when the Inca emperor Pachacutec established parties to the god Inti existente- creator of everything, in which the people of the Tawantinsuyo paid tribute to the sun god. The Inca emperor, son of the Sun, predicted before the crowd the fate of his government and sent prayers to her father for his own benefit. This party would be the equivalent of our "New Year" as it is held at the end of the harvest, the end of the agricultural year and the beginning of a new cycle. Today, the Inti Raymi is a throwback to the custom of the ancient Inca Empire whose celebrations begin on the Inca palace, Qoricancha and ends in the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman.

Thus, representative dances of the four regions (own) -Qollasuyu Incas, Kuntisuyu, Antisuyu and Chinchaysuyu-, clothing or music totems of ayarachis are some of the activities that make up this party. The main event is the staging of Inti Raymi in the Sacred Plaza, or explanada- of Sacsayhuaman. Thus the ceremony Chicha, the Sacred Fire Ceremony, the Sacrifice of the flame, or sacred ceremony sanko bread, the message of the Inca and Qochorikuy or popular exaltation will be the protagonists of the city of Cuzco June 24.
